FEATURES

Calculator Features for Bus

FEC functionalities include:
  • The model integrates a STP calculator that estimates the distribution of STP as a function of vehicle duty-cycle. Emissions are now represented as a function of engine load, which depends upon vehicle duty cycle.  Users can customize duty cycles by supplying a second-by-second driving cycle (speed vs. time trace) or users can select from a drop down menu of representative duty cycles.
  • The model incorporates three levels of roughness to represent the impact of grade on operating loads.
  • Twelve weather scenarios are provided so that users can select representative environmental conditions which also affect vehicle emission rates.
  • The model integrates STP-specific criteria pollutant emission rates from the EPA MOVES model for a variety of environmental conditions. An emission rate lookup matrix based upon the MOVES-Matrix Modeling approach allows the Calculator to pair the appropriate MOVES emission rates with the calculated load values for relevant environmental conditions.
  • The model incorporates a hybrid bus energy balance model designed to shift energy demand across STP operating mode bins to account for the energy recover and electrically driven tractive power supplied by both parallel and serial hybrid configurations.

New Calculator Features for Rail

The new transit rail Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions estimator, FEC rail module, is composed of two sub-models; one for estimating emissions from electric rail operations and the other for estimating emissions from diesel-electric rail operations.  Transit electric rail systems include street-cars, light rail, and heavy rail while diesel-electric rail systems include all passenger rail systems, usually found in commuter rail operations, which use diesel locomotives as the source of traction power.  The transit rail GHG emissions estimator is setup such that each of these two sub-models has their own separate data input, analysis, and output modules or spreadsheets.
